Photography Exhibition: Travel Photos

The next photography exhibition will include travel photos of course, but which ones?

Back to landscape photos for a change…

photography exhibition, landscape photography, Nong Khiaw, Laos, SE Asia, Manhattan, Central Park, New York, USA

For the past nine weeks, I have included photos for you to choose from as this is a break from writing Indonesian travel articles. Your feedback has been very helpful so far, but I also find it intriguing why someone chooses one photo over another.

Have you been to a photography exhibition since COVID started? If so, which one and where?

Image Earth Faces was the last photography exhibition in 2018 pre-COVID and hosted by the beautiful Erika from Piano B – Event Project Management. The stunning medieval Palazzo Sersale in the village of Cerisano, Calabria in Southern Italy, is a superb venue for any function but especially for an exhibition. The world has changed so much since 2018 with travel only a distant memory.

For me, organising a new portfolio for an exhibition is the toughest thing to do but there is also a lot of other things to organise, like venue, marketing, printing, hanging, and the list goes on.

So, it will be helpful if you can provide your thoughts on some of the following decisions that I need to make…

Choose a theme

  • Street?
  • Portrait?
  • Landscape?
  • Candid?
  • Urban exploration?
  • Abstract and Conceptual
  • Street art?
  • Travel?
  • Castles?
  • Country or continent?
  • Social issues?

Choose a Medium

  • Black & White?
  • Colour?
  • Frames? Frameless glass?
  • Canvas?
  • Acrylic?
  • Foamboard?

Choose more

  • Number of photos?
  • Size of photos to exhibit?
  • Orientation (landscape or portrait)?

Mixing colour with black and white this time. Which photo between these two do you prefer and why?

For a change I can confidently say, without even hesitating, I prefer the photo in Laos … what can I say, I’m a child for the wild!

    1. Image Earth Travel Avatar

Ha, ha, I know you are and love your travel stories.
This part of Laos is spectacular and I’d love to return one day – oh and the food is also delicious!

Whilst I love trees and your B&W image is fab, I really like the image from Laos for the reflections, the mountains and the dramatic sky 🙂 xx

      Hey Gill
Cheers for the great feedback. The Laos photo was during a dramatic weather day and this was an amazing vista that I couldn’t resist taking. Did you get to Laos when you lived in Thailand? (Can’t remember). The published article on Nong Khiaw is this one if you haven’t read it – a gorgeous part of Laos. I really should update the Laos posts to the new WP editor, but who has time!
      Thanks again
      Nilla x

Yeah, I went to Vang Vieng a couple of times – tubing (never again! ) hahah It is lovely and would like to see more x

      2. Image Earth Travel Avatar

Vang Vieng changed so much since I visited in 1989 to 2014! In fact, Laos changed a lot, understandably.
        How I miss travelling… 🙁

  3. equinoxio21 Avatar

Laos no doubt. (Though I may have seen that very same sax player in Central Park a while back. When was this?)

    1. Image Earth Travel Avatar

      Hi
Had to salvage your comment from my Trash folder again – WP doesn’t like you for some reason…
I took the Central Park photo in 2011. Is that when you were there? Spooky!
      Have a great weekend!
      Cheers

      1. equinoxio21 Avatar

        I’ll file a complaint with WP. 😉
2011? Might be. Daughter #1 was an international banker in New York (she’s shifted gears totally now) and we went to visit her. I remember witnessing an Occupy Wall St protest. Must have been 2011. Wonderful!
Another blogger took a picture of the very same protest. So we were yards of one another.
        Take care.
        Buona settimana

      2. Image Earth Travel Avatar

What?!! I was there at Occupy Wall Street! How spooky! Photos in this post: New York’s Manic Manhattan – we probably have the same photos. 😉
How small is our world really?
        Buona Giornata

      3. equinoxio21 Avatar

Ours is very small. My parents used to say that only 10,000 people or so turned “around” as much. Maybe it’s a bit more now.
My first job was in Gabon. First evening I was having dinner at a restaurant. Gave my name to the owner who was running the tab. A young man sitting at another table jumps, stands up, comes to my table, extends his hand and says: “You got to be kidding! I’m Thomas Keller, your best friend in Amsterdam when we were kids.”. I looked at him and yes… What are the odds.
        Hopping to “Occupy”…

      4. Image Earth Travel Avatar

You made the Trash again, bizarre!

Wow, what a story and bet you had a great catch-up! Did you talk freely similar to when you were kids and never lost contact?

But also, that’s so spooky as I had a viewer from Gabon last week. Not sure if the flag made it to the counter as I’ve had Sidebar issues since 6th January and nothing has been tracking. Very annoyed with WP as the widget editor was pushed through without proper testing or end-user feedback. The “Happiness Engineers” have raised 3 IT bug tickets on my behalf – or was that 4 – I’ve lost track now. Really, I don’t get paid to test a WP platform! Rant over. 😉
        Thank you!

      5. equinoxio21 Avatar

We did re-make friends while I was in Gabon. Then lost contact again. It was not so easy to keep track then.
A viewer form Gabon? 🇬🇦 Strange. But then just a smaller world than one imagines. The wife of a long-time English friend is a school friend with Aung Saan Suu Kiy. They met with her only recently just before the coup. So I’m two people “away” form her. Just as my parents (and I) were only one person away from JFK. (Remember the 6 people theory?)
        What’s an IT bug ticket?
Rant is good. Cleanses the mind…

      6. Image Earth Travel Avatar

A shame but with social media these days, shouldn’t be too hard to hook up again. 😉
Yes, the Gabon viewer came up in my stats but because WP has so many bugs with the widget block editor – no longer does a company do testing – many of my sidebar widgets weren’t displayed, so the flag wasn’t collected in the count.
Wow, you do smooch with the higher echelons!
I’ve been trying to replicate the contents of my post sidebar since the 6th of Jan and running into all sorts of bugs. When I email/chat online (as I pay for the Premium plan), the “Happiness Engineers” log a ticket as I’m discovering bugs in the platform.
As long as it’s not too often otherwise, it becomes whining! 😉

      7. equinoxio21 Avatar

yeah, I have thought about it. But I almost never go to FB. I keep in touch with a few “old mates” form senior high, but we whatsapp. And see each other or talk every once in a wile.
So you too pay for the premium plan? Me too and – touch wood – I haven’t had those problems. Have you considered changing theme? Maybe that could help?

      8. Image Earth Travel Avatar

Sounds cool and always good to keep in touch. Having global friends is great!
Yes, I’ve been paying ever since I started with WP. Good suggestion but changing themes also means I design my own touches to the selected theme using CSS, then when WP pushes out something new, it can render the CSS useless. My dilemma and not sure what to do with WP.

      9. equinoxio21 Avatar

It’s been so long since I picked my theme up. I remember changing a few details. I know that you can test your new theme. Maybe it’s a way around your problems?

      10. Image Earth Travel Avatar

        Salvaged you from Trash again!
Yeah, me too but this is my second theme now as WP retired my first theme – joy. Great suggestion but don’t think it will work as it’s bugs with the WP widget block editor. So, just need to wait until it’s fixed and stop wasting time trying to fix it myself! 😉

  4. Monkey's Tale Avatar

Number 1, I feel like I’ve seen versions of the second picture many times but the first is unique and interesting. Maggie

    1. Image Earth Travel Avatar

Thank you for taking the time to leave me feedback Maggie! 🙂
This is a very unique region of Laos and would love to return one day.

  5. Yetismith Avatar

This is the hardest choice. I love Asia and in that photograph, the way the hill is lit up. But I also love the ave of trees with musician and comparatively few people in NY. Maybe I choose 2 because it is a different view of NY and a really great photograph.

    1. Image Earth Travel Avatar

Thank you for your great and kind feedback – much appreciated!
I don’t muck around/change aspects of my photos, so what you see is what I saw and yes, the lighting on the hill is what drew my attention when taking this photo.
      Cheers
      Nilla

  6. Diana Avatar

I like both photos but I really enjoy the first one. I think it’s the sky that stands out, I like that you can see the rain coming down.

    1. Image Earth Travel Avatar

      Hi Diana
Thanks for the great feedback! Do you think this photo would look good on canvas?
This is the travel article for Nong Khiaw, which is a small area that isn’t so traversed in Laos but a must-see. 😉
      Cheers
      Nilla

      1. Diana Avatar

I truly have no idea, I don’t know anything about what changes when a photo is put on Canvas.

      2. Image Earth Travel Avatar

        No problem. Thought I’d ask.
I love the photo on canvas look as depending on the image, it can look like a painting.

  7. Christie Avatar

I also think that mixing colour with black and white is a great idea! I believe that a wide variety of themes might work as well (like mixing portraits with landscape). I do like one photo today, but I might choose the other one tomorrow. Like the 2 above, it is so hard to choose😊 I wanted to say the first one is my favourite, as I always dream to explore the wilderness, but today I would pick the second one, that’s the Saturday night mood I guess😉
    Cheers, xx

    1. Image Earth Travel Avatar

      Hey Christie
Great feedback and I tend to agree with you. Art is very subjective and dependant on your mood at the time – absolutely.
Hope your Saturday was super cool… 😉
      Cheers
      Nilla x

      1. Christie Avatar

Saturday was super cool, frigid cold I mean😉 Feeling like minus 30 Celsius hehehe
After heavy snow yesterday, the sun is out again, everything is so white and pure right now, love it🙂
have a lovely week ahead! xx

      2. Image Earth Travel Avatar

        Wow, that sounds spectacular!
We’re sweltering in humidity right now but typically Brisbane summer weather. Still have a couple of hot months left to go yet. 😉
        Have a great weekend! x
