The #momo Monochrome Monday challenge continues with snow in Rome!

Have you ever visited Rome when it has been snowing? On a quick visit to Rome in February 2018, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in the Eternal City presented itself blanketing this gorgeous city with snow – what a transformation.

      Hope you get there Damien as it’s a gorgeous city, but be prepared for the crowds.
      While you’re in Italy, visit the south for stunning scenery, architecture, amazing food, hospitable locals, and hardly any crowds.

        Great adjective to describe that film. I haven’t seen it in years.
        I watched the first two films of The Godfather over the past few weeks. Powerful acting.
        Strangely enough, the first time I saw all three films was only about 6 years ago.

        Yes good manners could well describe that period… (I’m getting older every day…)
        The Godfather was very powerful. How strange you missed out on the launch. I saw the first part in a remote Brazilian town (Belo Horizonte I think) with bad English audio and Portuguese subtitles. That’s when I started learning Portuguese. LOL

        Maybe it depends on the country. 😉
        Not sure, probably never interested in it when I was young but you’re right, all 3 films are powerful.
        Ha, ha, a good reason to learn but it’s harder than Spanish, so I’ll stick with a few words in Spanish.

        Yes, portuguese is harder than Spanish. Paritcularly grammar and spelling. But, once you have a few languages under your belt it helps. Sapnish and French helped me learn Portuguese. Now with those three, Italian is relatively easy… Your Italian could help with Portuguese. Boa noite.

        Hmmm…I’m not so sure. I haven’t put my mind to learning more languages. How does it become easier when you have a few languages under your belt? Is it similariteis in the grammatical structure?
        How many languages do you speak?

        Many languages come from families. Romance languages come from Latin. So they’re similar in “radicals” (Latin helps for that). The basic word structure. e.g. Italian “finestra” = French “fenêtre”. So if you speak a couple of romance languages, the others become easy to learn. Except that in Spanish the word is “ventana” and in Portuguese “janela”. English (and Latin) help me with German. Dutch helps me with German… Slavic languages? No dice. Beer is Pivo in Czech and Piva in Russian… Just fun.
        I speak half a dozen in varying degrees of… “achuievement”. Buona notte. (Technically I don’t speak Italian. But I get by…)

        I think we may have had this discussion in the past and I’m still impressed at the number of languages you speak.
        For Italian, all you need is your hands. Not sure if you saw this post from a few years ago: Italian Languages, Dialects, and Hands: An Outsider’s View. 😉

        I hadn’t seen it. Most interesting, though not suprising. It also means anybody in Italy can probably tell where anyone is from with a couple of sentences. Rhythm, accent, choice of words…

        Exactly and there’s such a divide with the north and south – very noticeable.
        I have relatives in Genoa and I can only pick up a couple of words in 20 words of the Genoese dialect but speaking Italian is a way around this hurdle.

        You have relatives all over the place in Italy, right? It is one of my crazy dreams to live in Italy for six months. Tuscanny probably. Don’t know whether it will ever happen.

        I do indeed, but also in Australia, Canada, and the US, although I haven’t met everyone…yet.
        That was one of our dreams to buy a rundown apartment in Calabria and do it up then spend 6 months in Oz and 6 months in Italy. But, it was so difficult getting citizenship (even for me) that I gave up on that dream, but only partially. 😉

        Ha, ha, I can never forget the treatment from the public servants of the local Comune – it’s burnt into the ‘ole grey matter!
        It was a shame, but I may be able to go down the Croatian path (mother’s side). Think I mentioned that we spent time at the State Archives in Rijeka in August researching my mother’s side of the family – wow, how complicated. This research was also to start getting papeerwork together so that when I return to Oz, I’ll start the process…wish me luck. What can I say, my DNA hails from a stubborn Calabrese father!
        Si, forse is “maybe”.
        Oh and you made the Trash folder again!

        Not surprised about the trash folder. With the new OS on all my devices, I need to click on at least 3 successive windows where one click was enough… And the corresponding updates on software are the same. I might have mentioned it before I feel like little Mario jumping from one level to the other, only to get crashed by a ton of stones when I come too close to the end.
        Croatian now? I didn’t know or remember. Wish you all the luck in the world…
        Now stubborn is fine. My Breton ancestors are considered the most stubborn lot in all of France… 😉

        As for the number of languages I speak, I don’t have much merit. There are two reasons: 1) Opportunity: I’d lived in 7-8 countries before I was 18. That helps.
        2) A good freind of my mother’s in West Africa was the wife of the Israeli ambassador. I still remember her vividly. Her name was Tamara. Spoke perfect French. One day my mother asked her how many languages she spoke.
        “Twelve, give or take.”
        “OMG! Must be very hard.”
        “No. The hard ones are the first 5 or 6 languages you learn. After that? You “jump from one language to the other. You speak French and Spanish? Italian is easy.”
        See where I got my sources? And in fact I did have a half goal of getting to ten… But being a bit of a “Dilettante”, I don’t think I’ll make it…

        Wow, 12 is impressive! I think if I knew so many, they’d get all mangled in my brain, but I have heard (before this conversation) that it does get easier the more languages you know. I’m not there yet…

        One language at a time…
        I was diagnosed a “Dilettante” in my Freshman year in College. Which in France means going through a series of very tough and long competitive exams, so once you’re in, you take things lightly. First month we all had to take tests and an interview with a psychologist. We then each received our psychological profile. “Isn’t there a trace of a possible ‘Dilettante’?” was one of the psychologists findings on me. I laughed so much I’ve tried to maintain my reputation to this day… 😬

      I’d never thought of Rome in the snow before until the day I was there for this rare occasion. But as you say, if the city is on the same latitude as Chicago, then it should snow there often.

    Fantastic! and with Pink Floyd the atmosphere is wonderful. I was in Rome in the spring and I loved walking through its streets and going into its cafes. but, with snow it is impossible to write what I feel when looking at the photographs. my hug, Nilla.😀
